Trastevere

The most picturesque and genuine district in Rome, with its cobbled lanes, lively squares and old osterie. Perfect for wandering with no particular plan, especially at sunset when the whole quarter turns golden.

Porta Portese Market

The largest and most historic flea market in Rome, stretching along the Lungotevere every Sunday morning. Among hundreds of stalls you will find vintage objects, books, clothes and the occasional unexpected treasure.

Galleria Borghese

One of the finest museums in Italy, set in the greenery of Villa Borghese. It holds an extraordinary collection of Bernini sculptures and paintings by Caravaggio, Raphael and Titian — book well ahead, but it is absolutely worth it.

A long-standing trattoria in the heart of San Lorenzo, with a working-class soul and a kitchen that mixes Roman tradition with Apulian influences. The rigatoni con pajata are a classic not to miss.

Alle Carrette

A long-standing pizzeria in the heart of Monti, loved by Romans for its thin, crisp pizza and its plain, honest atmosphere. Always full, always good — come early or expect to queue.

Ai Tre Scalini

An osteria and wine bar in the heart of Monti, with a natural-wine list and simple but careful cooking. Right for a quick lunch, or for stopping over a glass in an unpretentious, genuine setting.

Santo Palato

A trattoria in San Giovanni and one of the most interesting voices in the new Roman cooking. Grounded, seasonal food, with real attention to offal and forgotten cuts, without ever losing sight of the great classics.

APERITIVO AND NIGHTLIFE

From wine bars to cocktails, from a glass in the piazza to a night that runs long, the Roman aperitivo is a habit worth picking up: outdoors, on a terrace, or in a bar that stays open late.

Monk

Far more than a bar: a cultural hub in the heart of Pigneto. Live music, DJ sets, concerts and art in an informal, welcoming space — right for an evening whose ending you cannot predict.

Freni e Frizioni

A long-standing cocktail bar in Trastevere, with a wide terrace overlooking Piazza Trilussa. A generous aperitivo, good cocktails and a crowd that mixes locals and travellers.

Baronato quattro bellezze

An art gallery, bistro and cultural association in the heart of the Ponte quarter. A hybrid, surprising place.

Rashomon

One of the longest-running and most respected techno and underground clubs in Rome, going for more than fifteen years. Serious electronic music and international line-ups. The reference point for anyone who wants to dance until dawn.

Jerry Thomas Project

Hidden in the old centre with no sign and entry by reservation. An immersive experience modelled on the speakeasies of the 1920s, with classic cocktails executed to perfection.

BREAKFAST & SNACKS

For slow days, the city is full of cafés where you can linger over a long breakfast or an afternoon snack with friends. Some also welcome remote workers, with a real Italian coffee to keep you going.

Roscioli Caffè

The Roscioli family’s long-standing café, a reference point for anyone after quality without compromise. Fragrant cornetti, selected coffees and an elegant but never snobbish atmosphere.

La casetta

Tucked away in Monti, in a small ivy-covered house, this is one of those places that seem to come from another time. Home-made cakes, fresh juices and good coffee in an intimate, quiet setting.

Pasticceria Regoli

A historic Roman pastry shop near Piazza Vittorio, known above all for its maritozzo with cream. Come early: the best things go quickly.

Forno Monteforte

A long-standing bakery in the centre, with everything from maritozzi to pizza by the slice, cornetti to tarts. Right for a quick but good breakfast, or a snack on the go.

Faro – Caffè Specialty

One of the best addresses in Rome for anyone who takes coffee seriously. Single-estate specialty beans, roasted in house under the Aliena Coffee Roasters name. Breakfast, brunch and lunch in a considered, informal space.

ICE CREAM & STREET FOOD

Rome eaten standing up: between one sight and the next, a supplì, a slice of pizza or a good artisan gelato are as much part of the trip as the monuments.

Gelateria Lab

Awarded Three Cones by Gambero Rosso and named best chocolate in Italy. Stefano Ferrara makes gelato with sugar kept to a minimum, without ever giving up on flavour.

Antico Forno ai Serpenti

A long-standing bakery in the heart of Monti, with a retro feel of wrought iron and old marble. Bread, pizza by the slice and cakes made with selected ingredients — a neighbourhood classic worth rediscovering.

Neve di Latte

An artisan gelateria ranked among the best in the world for its pistachio. Fresh milk, first-rate ingredients and an approach that always puts the product first.

Supplì Roma

The historic address, in Trastevere since 1979. Classic ragù supplì, but also carbonara and cacio e pepe versions — always crisp, always stringy. An essential stop for anyone who wants to understand Roman street food.

Food Box – Mercato Testaccio

One of the best-loved stalls in Testaccio market: crisp, dry frying, properly cooked rice and honest prices. Worth combining with a walk through the market stalls for a thoroughly Roman morning.
